Family Owned and Operated Over 50 Years
Bob and Jean Fessler grew up on family farms in Oregon's Willamette Valley, learning the value of hard work.
1968: Founded Woodburn Nursery & Azaleas, starting with a small greenhouse producing florist azalea liners
1970s: Pivoted to dormant azaleas, foliage plants, and annuals before diversifying into outdoor nursery stock and rhododendrons due to the late 1970s energy crisis
1980s: Their children joined the business. -Tom in nursery stock production -Rick in azalea operations -Karen, Sandy, Jodi in accounting and HR
1980s and 1990s: Introduced field-grown rhododendrons
2000: Trialed pot-in-pot production which expanded to 185 acres by 2007
2009: Added annuals, offering diverse products from tray packs to patio planters
Today: Woodburn Nursery spans 620 acres, combining advanced production techniques with traditional farming roots, including grass seed, green beans, and blueberries.
Bob’s focus on diversification has been key to the nursery’s steady growth and resilience in the agriculture industry.
